How to Use New "Warcraft 2 Levels" with the
"Command & Conquer / Warcraft 2 Toolkit" (volume 3)
Quick background info:
Using new Warcraft II levels is not difficult. Unlike "Command & Conquer",
"Warcraft II" was built with new levels in mind. Blizzard Entertainment
actually went so far as to actually include a map editor with their game, in
the hopes that creative young minds around the world would make new levels.
And they did...
Each new level for Warcraft II has a file extension of "PUD". I have no idea
why this name was chosen.
In any case, here's how this is going to work in a nutshell: You grab new
levels off the CD and put them in your Warcraft II directory. Warcraft II
detects that they are there and you start playing them. Easy, eh? :)
Procedure for using new levels:
--- Preparation ---
1. Grab new levels from the CD. To do this, use "View CDROM Contents" (if
in Windows) or \view.exe (if in DOS). Install a few levels directly to
the directory where you installed Warcraft II (probably c:\war2).
If you have trouble using View, please refer to the "View Documentation"
icon (if in Windows) or \docs\view.doc (if in DOS).
--- Telling Warcraft II Which New Level You Want to Use ---
2. Once you've installed a few new levels, start up Warcraft II.
We'll be using the single-player example for right now.
3. Click on "Single Player Game"
4. Click on "Custom Scenario"
5. Click on "Select Scenario"
6. At the very top, change the "Type:" to "Custom Scenario"
7. Scroll down through the list until you find the "PUD" you want.
8. Click "OK"
--- Playing the Game ---
9. Click on "Start Game"
Using new levels with multiple players:
Use the procedure above. All computers wanting to use the same new
multi-player level must have it available in their own Warcraft II
directories.
That's it. Happy gaming!
